The World Cat Federation recognizes the breed but does not accept it for competition. The Manx cat (/ m æ k s /, in earlier times often spelled Manks) is a breed of domestic cat (Felis catus) originating on the Isle of Man, with a naturally occurring mutation that shortens the tail. It is also sanctioned by the Cat Aficionado Association of China. Since then, it has been accepted for championship competition by the American Cat Fanciers Association and the Cat Fanciers Association. The International Cat Association officially recognized the American bobtail cats in 1989.
